******

I wrote this album in a small house in North Denver. About a month after I finished the writing my girlfriend and I parted ways, sold the house, and I went on tour for a month to support the EP End Of Future Park. In July (two months later) I came back to Denver and recorded the entire album in about two weeks with ManMadeMadMan. Then I loaded my belongings from a storage unit into a rental truck and drove to Chicago, where I live now. In retrospect I don't know how to think about what these songs mean to me without judging them against the things that were to come. What seems like a breakup song to me now was written while I was in a relationship. What seems like a lyric about the death of my oldest friend was written half a year before he took his own life. So much has changed it is impossible for me to see the writings from their initial perspective. Madman and I passed versions of these songs back and forth for months via email. I think I was hesitant to think of it as finished because of the emotional weight I retroactively attached to these songs. I have apologized to Shane numerous times for my obsessiveness with details but I wanted to put it in writing one more time: This album couldn't have happened without you. When everything was up in the air for me you cooked dinner and took the time to talk to me about your own life. Also you made some real bangers, man. An honor to work with one of my hometowns best.

This album goes out to Jeremy Gilbert. Rest In Peace friend. Your passing has cast everything into relief and reality will always look different without you here. In your absence I have the constant awareness of death always. It is a morbid gift but I am eternally thankful for the challenge to learn from it.
